    Hi Do you know how indicator switch is wired? I have an Austin A30 from 1955 and struggling at the moment with the wiring. Would appreciate any help.

    • @MetamorphicWonders
      @MetamorphicWonders День тому

      if you take the rotating switch off there is a set of gates. Find out the common wire that gives power to them all. Then move the switch to the left position and see what gates are joined. Then you can work out what wire goes where. Also a volt meter to test what wire is what helps so you lnow what wire is connected to the indicator. PLUS .. A30 s had trafficators not indicators. I took mine off and replaced with trafficators.

    Can you tell me the dimensions of the sinker please?

    • @MetamorphicWonders
      @MetamorphicWonders Місяць тому

      The sinker is 92cm width and length and 69 cm tall. If your going to make one i would recommend finding one and photo and measuring accurately , as there are many features , eye holes, bolts , weights, doors, and thin and thick plate. And a counter weight. Also there is a shaped top where the mine fits into the sinker snuggley. It would need a lot of measuring. Also has four “railway” type wheels on the base. There are a few in museums that you can get close too. My measurements i gave you are simply the outside footprint of the sinker. Are you planning on making a sinker?

    Why didn't they just use three bolts ?? Would have made maintenance so much easier than three studs 😢. Perhaps double nutting the studs and unscrewing the studs, like a bolt, might work. I may have to do that if my housing doesnt come off.

    At 1526 mins i explain you fill up the resevoir via the bung till it overflows. Well…. you dont , you fill it up via the big opening above it till its full. The bung is just a drain off. I am going to do a follow up on this to explain this.

    • @MetamorphicWonders
      @MetamorphicWonders 2 місяці тому

      yes. if your refering to the four outlets ontop .. gently prise it out. Clean it and replace. Make sure its all moving inside like mine is in the film. All cleans up nicely. Im going to do a follow up on this film showing filling the oil reservoir in the bottom. It can be a bit confusing. At 1526 i refer to filling up the oil via the bung till it overflows. You dont.. it gets filled up from the big opening above till its full. I will do a follow up on this soon. That brass bung is a drain off plug not a filling plug.

    You can replace the philips brake drum screws with a recessed allen hex with the same chamfered shape to fit the drum. They are a bit more positive than a philips head, slught smear of grease on the threads on most car fasteners saves a lot of heartache in the future. I did that job when I was 18, plus fitted new KingPin bushes then reamed them to fit with two expanding reamers as the top of the kingpin is smaller than the bottom. In order to fit the bushes in we put them in the freezer for a day then warmed up the casting and they slipped in easily, but you have to make sure the grease holes line up between bush and casting. If you start hammering the bushes in you will ruin them.

    Fantastic explanation, very well explained. Crystal clear. One question related to detonation; at what point is the mine active? Could the mine explode on board the deployment ship if a sailor accidentally bumped off one of the horns?

    • @MetamorphicWonders
      @MetamorphicWonders 3 місяці тому

      i need to do another film on this. Its complicated. The mine works on a 3v battery. imagine a circuit…. along that circuit are two soluble plugs in the shin of the mine…. theres also a pressure switch that activates when the mine is under tension .. eg on thw sinker when its floating at its depth…. so …. if a sailer hit the horns with a hammer on the ship it wont go off. The soluble plugs have a salt pellet inside and a spring… soon as sea water hits the pellet it disolves slowly. When it disolves the spring pulls and activates that bit as a switch thats now on… then the other soluble plug needs to be disolved and activated by the sea as well … but even if these two malfunctioned (which is impossible) and activated… it still isnt armed until the mine has deployed and the cable is pulling down on the bottom .. thus activating the final switch. then its live. It gets more detailed than this… there is a timer that can activate and sink the mine after a period of time. It doesnt go bang .. just floods it. Hence these thing wash up on beaches all these years later still live. I will do another film on these facts. I hope what ive explained makes sense. Look at my other films .. i do show the inside of these mines and i have posted about five films on mines showing my mk17. (inert!)

    • @JC-zc6kh
      @JC-zc6kh 3 місяці тому

      @MetamorphicWonders That makes perfect sense now. So if a Mark XVII mine washed up on a shore, by accident (let's say the mooring chain broke and it floated away) for it to explode somebody would have to pull the anchoring cord and a horn would need to be pressed inwards too?

    • @MetamorphicWonders
      @MetamorphicWonders Місяць тому

      The horns are a switch. Mine is positive from a 1.5 battery and the horn is negative. hence the name “switch horn”

    If you have an Oxy Acetelyne set and get the arm pins red they will usually come out. I have had to cut the bolt inside the big spring at times. Lots of shit in there alright. The alloy bears war to stop flex of the arms as in the early tractors that apparently was a problem. The control valve you have is the latest and the fork on the front of the pump rocks back and forth when the pump is engaged with the original plan being that the valve would not stick with the constant movement. Your valve looks good now so I would drop it if for a go without the top back on and see if it pumps.

    • @MetamorphicWonders
      @MetamorphicWonders 4 місяці тому

      Thanks for the reply. I have put it all back together and the hydraulics seem to work now. It raises at a good speed but the downward movement is slow. Maybe it will speed up with a bit of use. My oil level is below minimum at the moment as i ran out when refilling so my test was with very very low oil. Ive ordered another 20 litres and will top it up in a few days. Then i will try it more times and see if the downward (gravity ) is quicker.
